Millstone Estate Winery is located on the edge of Nanaimo, along the Millstone River. The property includes a small vineyard and a plantation style house. Millstone vineyards include 6.5 acres of producing vines including Merlot, Pinot Noir, Ortega, Pinot Gris, and Marechal Foch.
Mount Benson serving as the backdrop to the west, a bluff rising from the Millstone River to the east is an idyllic setting for the heritage house. Millstone Winery received its license to sell wine in 2011.
The Tasting Room and Banquet Room are a newly built post and beam building made from timber cleared from the property and beams recovered from a mill that was torn down. Inside, unique furniture, including the sales counter recovered from the old Johnson’s Hardware store, was restored and fits right in to the vintage-style decor. An outdoor patio with a wood-burning pizza oven draw the crowds during the summer. Millstone hosts live music on their patio during the summer months.
Their current releases include a Cabernet Franc. The label features ‘Black Frank’, founder of the legendary bathtub races and one of the previous mayors of Nanaimo. The image on the label is taken from his statue in the park. Others include Pinot Gris, Ortega, Pinot Noir, Merlot & Wild Blackberry Port.
